hydroxycut hardcore elite

This is, as you may have guessed from the name, a fat burning supplement. On top of that, it is also a pre-workout supplement which has energy-boosting properties as well. Now, it is worth noting that there is a range of products that sport the Hydroxycut moniker. The one we will be focusing on here, however, is Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite. This particular product caters specifically towards serious people who want serious results.

There are many Hydroxycut reviews out there, but what we will try to do here is provide you with one that is completely unbiased and offers an in-depth review of the supplement and its effects. So, without further ado, let us dive right into it…

Who makes Hydroxycut?

Hydroxycut is a MuscleTech supplement. This is a company you will most likely have heard of, as it can definitely count among the “big names”, given their popularity and extensive inventory.

They started out as a small company in 1995 when they were only selling a total of three different products. Since their humble beginnings, the company had grown exponentially. Their products are subject to praise by regular users and professionals alike, and they have received a number of awards. Most notably, Bodybuilding.com had proclaimed them  “Supplement Company Of The Month” for June 2017.

All in all, with that info and with what a quick Google search can reveal, you can rest assured you’re dealing with professionals who do not peddle low-quality supplements or thrive on fake advertising. That said, let us move on to the product itself!

Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite

To start off with the basic effects that MuscleTech claims this product offers: excellent thermogenesis, high energy levels, heightened focus and, ultimately, very noticeable weight loss. And how exactly is that achieved?

Caffeine

As it turns out, Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite owes most of its effectiveness to its key ingredient: caffeine anhydrous. Obviously, you already know that caffeine is a powerful neurostimulator, and this substance is no advanced caffeine derivative. Rather, it is simply dehydrated caffeine, as the more linguistically savvy ones among you may have already deduced. The sole benefit of this caffeine form is that it ensures that you get a consistent dose of caffeine with every dose of Hydroxycut. Other than the absence of water, it is completely identical to “regular” caffeine.

You get 270mg of caffeine with every 2-capsule serving of this supplement, which is well over half the recommended 400mg daily intake for adults. That said, taking one dose of this supplement with your pre-workout shake will definitely give your energy levels a serious spike. Mind you, that caffeine has both a physical and mental effect. It makes sure your muscles pull through the training, but will also enhance your mental focus and willpower. Moreover, it greatly contributes to thermogenesis and thus – weight loss.

But caffeine is a very common ingredient in a lot of fat burners and pre-workouts out there, so I doubt there’s any need to elaborate more on it. After all, much more goes into Hydroxycut than just caffeine…

Green coffee extract

It might seem a bit strange at first glance to see this on the list, as most people automatically register “coffee” and “caffeine” as the same thing. Yes, the primary purpose of green coffee extract in this supplement is to offer a supply of caffeine. However, it has some additional effects on top of that.

As the name suggests, it comes from unroasted green coffee beans. Numerous weight loss supplements have been based around it over the years, but unfortunately, there has been little conclusive evidence to support its effectiveness.

I am not trying to say that green coffee extract is a scam, though. Quite the contrary, it possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, in addition to boosting metabolism. However, due to a lack of any legitimate studies when it comes specifically to weight loss effects, I can only be sceptical of its alleged effectiveness. As such, I don’t recommend thinking any more of this ingredient rather than it being simply a source of caffeine.

Coleus extract

Now we come to one of the lesser-known ingredients found in this supplement, the Coleus extract. The plant in questions is Coleus forskohlii, and the key substance here is forskolin. This plant, which is quite popular in alternative medicine, is another relatively common ingredient in fat burner supplements.

Most notably, the Coleus extract is proven to naturally stimulate testosterone production. Apart from that, it also possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and has a multitude of medicinal applications. That said, it’s obvious from the get-go that Coleus forskohlii contributes to weight loss by increasing testosterone levels the natural way.

That may all look good on paper, but how does it fare in practice? Not all that well, it seems. The trials conducted with actual people all point to the fact that Coleus extract can slow down weight gain, but does not necessarily contribute to weight loss. With that in mind, it is another ingredient whose apparent effectiveness I would take with a pinch of salt.

Cocoa extract

Cocoa is the plant you get chocolate from, so what is it doing in a fat burning supplement? Well, cocoa can actually be very beneficial for your health and has several medicinal applications, too. Namely, it has positive effects on blood pressure and possesses anti-oxidant properties on top of that.

The main role of cocoa in this supplement is that it offers high caffeine content and supplies theobromine. This substance is largely responsible for the beneficial effects cocoa has on the cardiovascular system. Apart from that, cocoa extract does not directly contribute to weight loss on its own.

Yohimbe extract

The fourth and final plant extract present in Hydroxycut is extracted from the bark of Pausinystalia johimbe. This tree grows in western and central Africa, and the primary two substances it contributes here are yohimbine and rauwolscine.

  • Yohimbine has fat-burning properties, in addition to its several potential medicinal applications. Studies confirm that it can lead to significant body fat reduction, especially among elite athletes. On the other hand, there is no definite way to know how it will affect the average gym-goer, as it is not exactly a substance that has been extensively researched and tested.
  • Rauwolscine does not have any fat-burning properties of its own and serves only as a nervous system stimulant. Its effects are similar to those of caffeine, the key difference being that rauwolscine is not addictive. Regardless, it takes a back seat to caffeine here, as its concentration in the supplement is much lower.

L-Theanine

Slowly, we come to the good old amino acids. L-Theanine, to be specific. This is a non-essential amino acid (meaning that your body can synthesize it from protein on its own) and has a range of beneficial effects. When it comes specifically to weight loss, this amino acid actually does not have any direct fat burning effects. Rather, it works indirectly by reducing stress, anxiety and blood pressure.

That said, L-theanine is far from a crucial ingredient here, but it is a good thing to have regardless. The 100mg of it that you get per serving is a decent amount and is sure to have mental benefits, if not direct physical ones.

Final thoughts on ingredients

All things considered, I can’t say that I’m impressed with how Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite looks on paper. If it weren’t for the fact that we’re talking about MuscleTech, and if it weren’t for the excellent reception of this product, I would have immediately swept it under a rug as just another overpriced gimmick. After all, there is not enough scientific research to back most of Hydroxycut’s fat burning ingredients.

However, as is often the case, “on paper” and “in practice” can differ wildly. As such, we are now going to look at some other factors that might contribute further legitimacy to this product. What I’m talking about is Hydroxycut reviews written by none other than the people who have used it.

User experiences

We all know how biased professional reviews can be, and we all know that a lot of user reviews can be fake, too. However, when looking at the overall situation with customer reviews, the real situation becomes as clear as day. So, how exactly do you get to the truth?

  1. Look at the balance between 5-star and 1-star reviews. The average person is hardly a reliable reviewer, and they are likely to swing between the extremes. However, if there seems to be little to no “mixed” reviews, and there is a stark contrast between the positive and negative ones, there is a good chance that only the latter come from actual customers.
  2. Trust only reliable sources. On some sites, anyone can register and post a review. This is often exploited by companies who bump their product and/or service ratings up with bought fake reviews and bots. On the other hand, some companies like Amazon ensure that only those who have purchased the product in question can review it. That way, it’s much harder to fake user reviews.

Authority reviews

That said, let us look at the Hydroxycut reviews by users from several sites, shall we?

To nobody’s surprise, the company’s own site shows about a dozen short reviews by alleged users, and they are unanimously positive, all with a 5-star rating. This is certainly just a marketing strategy and nothing else, and we should, therefore, pay no mind to it.

Here, Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite has an average rating of 8.6/10. This is a more believable score, but the abovementioned problem number 2 with user reviews holds true here. The biggest red flag, in this case, is that you can’t view user profiles to see if they have any other reviews, and as such, you have no way of knowing if it’s legit or just a bot/throwaway account.

The moment you check user reviews on Amazon, the real truth begins to rear its head. Here, Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite has the average score of only 3.8/5. You can see the exact score distribution in the image on the right. 5-star reviews are dominant, but there is also a fair number of negative and mixed reviews as well.

All in all, users have several major gripes with the product. First of all, it seems to commonly cause tachycardia (rapid heartbeat) and nausea, even for those who adhered to the manufacturer’s usage and dosage instructions. Moreover, many reported that the product did not have the desired effect and did not work as advertised. In other words, it did not lead to any noticeable weight loss.

The verdict is in

I will be honest now – I have been sceptical of fat burner supplements from the first day that I’ve come to know about them. Whenever I see a product that promises miraculous and easy mass gains or weight loss, I just cannot help but think of it as a gimmick with a hefty price tag seeking to trick the gullible out of their money.

I do not mean to imply that fat burners are a scam, far from it. However, you have to agree that such supplements, along with some other ones like creatine, do rely a lot on the placebo effect. That is to say, you will see results and will attribute them to the supplement, all the while it was hard work and dieting that yielded those results.

Should you buy Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite?

Frankly, the only thing that you are guaranteed to get from this supplement is a good energy boost, owing to the high caffeine content. However, no conclusive evidence exists that points towards most of the additional substances having any palpable effect on weight loss.

I do not recommend this product to:

  • People looking to purchase their first fat burner/pre-workout supplement. This is an expensive high-profile product, and beginners won’t find much use for it.
  • People who are looking for an easy way to lose weight. This is not a pill-form weight loss solution. You will still have to train, eat clean and count your calories. If you want to see results.
  • People with an irritable digestive tract. The high caffeine content will definitely lead to some unpleasant side effects.

Alternative

If you count among any of the three above groups, I advise you to go with a simpler and more basic fat burner first. Something based on the amino acid L-carnitine would be a great place to start. Just keep in mind, the results won’t just come to you overnight! It can nudge you in the right direction, but it’s up to you to walk the walk.  A good place to start is an L-Carnitine supplement.

If you want something to take pre-workout and give your training session a boost, I’d also advise starting off with some low-key products. The best solution for the caffeine-sensitive and caffeine-resistant people would be carbohydrate supplements. These offer plenty of energy. The only downside is that it can carbohydrate. That is to say, they are highly caloric. As such, using them during a cutting period might be a bit counter-intuitive.

However

I recommend Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite to experienced lifters who want to experiment and try new things. The supplement includes a “hardcore elite” in its name for a reason. Moreover, the only way to see if Hydroxycut works for you is to test it yourself. Get one pack, use it for a month or two while changing nothing else about your routine. If your training schedule, session intensity, diet and supplementation remain identical and Hydroxycut is the only changed variable, you will soon be able to see if you’re getting any real results from it. Subsequently, you can see if it beats cutting without a fat burner, or if it is better than the one you were previously using.

The final word

That would conclude our Hydroxycut Hardcore Elite review. Hopefully, you have found it to be informative and helpful, regardless of whether you are a “normie” or a seasoned iron enthusiast.

The world of dietary supplements, and bodybuilding supplements, in particular, has changed a lot over the years. Protein supplements cannot lie, and if you go with a renowned name, you could hardly go wrong. However, you should always be wary of the expensive products which just seem to promise too much. In truth, the only people who can benefit the most, if at all, from those products are the professionals.

And, as I have already mentioned, lots of fat burners, creatine and some other types of supplements rely a lot on the placebo effect. Their actual effect can differ wildly from person to person. This is precisely why I advise giving Hydroxycut a test run for yourself before deciding to make it your fat burner/pre-workout of choice. Whatever you decide to do, best of luck, and keep lifting!
